That '90s Thing

Born at the end of the '80s, the '90s were the decade in which I really found my fashion feet. Their revival on the catwalk and high street alike has made us millenials feel old at times (as if our era is now classed as "vintage") but conversely, it's great to have been a part of it the first time around. What makes it even more exciting is that we're now experiencing it in the digital age where online shopping is the norm.

Now, this may be a strange concept to anyone raised with the Internet: not only did I visit high street stores in the '90s but I also went direct to wholesalers in Leicester (where I grew up); the likes of which now cater for fast fashion e-tailers. They were like treasure troves of affordable options and I could just be who I wanted to be.

I started in the mid-nineties with mini skirts, crop tops and army pants - yes, I was channelling every one of the spice girls depending on who I felt like that day. To a certain extent, I still do this every morning: I dress not only for what I have to do that day but for who I want to be.
Towards the end of the '90s, it was all about pedal pushers paired with cartoon tees, a choker and a denim jacket. Oh and an item called 'skirt/trousers' which really were as bad as they sound! Thank goodness this type of layering hasn't reared its ugly head with the present regeneration and instead, it's all about the tee under the cami.
