Gingham and Silver

Sunglasses: Coconut Lane
Dress: ASOS
Bag: Zara
Boots: Topshop

Gingham is traditionally associated with picnics and countryside kitchens, or, for many of us, childhood. There remains to this day a photo of me on my dad’s fireplace sporting some rather fetching lace-up, canvas trainers with thick, white rubber soles and block heels in an unforgettable shade of orange check. I kid you not.

Moving forward twenty years, I am relishing the challenge of modernising this nostalgic textile which is why, after stating that I'm stringent when it comes to new trends, I’m writing another post on the very thing (let’s face it – you knew I’d end up buying more than the top!)

I had already attempted to make the trend contemporary with exaggerated ruffles and the oh-so-on-point v-throat mules in the aforementioned post. However, my recent obsession has been gingham and silver. The pairing is an unlikely one but the contrast works on so many levels: muted vs. metallic tones, traditional vs. futuristic, country vs. city, to name just a few. Plus, there’s nothing I love more than being unpredictable ;)
